It’s no secret that men’s clothing is almost always more comfortable than women’s, and in terms of underwear, this is especially true. I’m talking boxers and briefs here. However, I’m not interested in wearing them as underwear, I decided to take men’s boxers and style them for an everyday look. Here are my three interpretations of how boxers should really be worn.
For my first look, I was going for a “roll out of bed and go to work” kind of thing. I grabbed a pair of regular Hanes men’s boxers. I chose this green plaid pair to pair with a striped button-down. I love the contrasting patterns, we’re all about mixing and matching over here.
I made sure to keep it messy and have my shirt unbuttoned and loose. I threw on a pair of mules to further create my air of nonchalance and threw my hair up in a pony. Then I threw on a pair of shades and fetched my “Fake Lunch” bag, created by the ever so talented Sonique Saturday (if you haven’t heard of her or seen her work, you’re missing out, seriously). There we have it, one look down!
For my second look, I decided to step up the glamour a notch by using a pair of silk boxers. To compliment my elevated briefs I am pairing this pair with an oversized black blazer. That’s right, underwear and a blazer, it’s a match made in heaven. I threw on a red silk camisole to keep the elevated look going. To top it all off I chose to match my shoes to the blazer and briefs, with these black and blue sock booties.
Using pieces that are normally worn for formal occasions and mixing them with more casual pieces is one of the easiest ways to dress up and dress down. Then it’s all really down to accessories and your attitude to determine if it’s a fancy-schmancy look or your everyday go-to.
Rounding out my experiment with boxer’s I looked to graphic tees for inspiration. What could arguably be pajamas I turned into a street style-inspired look. I donned this super cool t-shirt I found in the men’s section at the thrift store funnily enough, then borrowed a pair of my wife’s boxers, which are still men’s, but a different style than the ones I normally wear. To round out the look I picked out a maroon velvet puffer and a pair of black and white boots. I would suggest not wearing this outfit in the snow, but reader’s choice! In this outfit, I was really inspired by the biker short and baggy t-shirt trend but added the twist of briefs instead.
It’s super easy to take trends or fashion and turn it into your own style by tweaking little elements to be something different or unique. The wearing “pajamas” trend is huge right now, and it’s fun to interpret the trend in a new way. Not to mention the next-level comfort of wearing what I would normally go to bed in and making it daytime wear, talk about genius! Hopefully,
